The deal was mediated by Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Asim Munir, who coordinated negotiations between US Vice President JD Vance, Special Envoy Steve Witkoff, and Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi. Iran had rejected the US 15-point proposal from March, but submitted its own 10-point peace framework, which Trump called a "workable basis on which to negotiate," saying "almost all of the various points of past contention have been agreed to." Under the ceasefire terms, Iran agreed to immediately and fully reopen the Strait of Hormuz.
