Iran and US Resume Indirect Nuclear Talks in Geneva; Deal Appears Close
Iran and the US resume indirect nuclear negotiations in Geneva mediated by Oman, with Iran reportedly agreeing to degrade its uranium stockpiles to near-zero and a deal appearing within reach.
In February 2026, Iran and the US resumed indirect nuclear talks in Geneva, with Oman again serving as go-between. Oman's foreign minister announced on February 27 that Iran had agreed in principle to reduce its enriched uranium stockpiles to "the lowest level possible" effectively unrefined levels a major concession. Trump said he preferred a diplomatic solution but maintained all military options remained on the table. Multiple rounds of talks followed, with both sides describing the atmosphere as constructive. Iran's foreign minister Abbas Araghchi said a "historic" agreement was within reach. However, the talks ended without a breakthrough on February 26 and two days later, Israel launched the strikes that began the 2026 Iran War.
